A historic Norfolk barn conversion became the perfect canvas for a comprehensive home entertainment project that blends heritage architecture with cutting-edge technology. When the new homeowners approached Martins Hi-Fi, they weren't just looking for equipment – they wanted a complete solution that would respect the building's character while delivering exceptional audio-visual experiences.
Creating a Dual-Purpose Media Space
"What made this project fascinating was balancing two seemingly contradictory goals," explains Marcus Harbord from our team. "The clients wanted a comfortable everyday TV lounge that could transform into a cinema-quality viewing experience without compromising the barn's beautiful interior."
After conducting a thorough on-site survey, we presented various options at different performance and price points. Following demonstrations at our Norwich showroom, the clients fell in love with a Meridian Audio system that perfectly complemented their space.
The centerpiece of the installation is an elegant 5.1 Meridian DSP active loudspeaker setup featuring sophisticated floor-standing models paired with a stunning 65" OLED television. We carefully positioned everything on a bespoke wooden AV cabinet that enhances rather than disrupts the room's aesthetic.
Beyond the Main Space
The project extended well beyond the primary media room. We created a dedicated Hi-Fi den where the client could enjoy vinyl records and high-resolution digital streaming—a perfect retreat for serious music appreciation.
Throughout the remainder of the property, we installed a discreet multi-room audio system allowing seamless music enjoyment in every space. Underpinning everything is a robust WiFi and data network ensuring reliable connectivity throughout the property, along with SkyQ distribution for consistent high-quality viewing wherever needed.
Seamless Installation Process
"With retrofit installations in historic buildings, the preparation work is crucial," notes our installation team lead. "We carefully planned and installed all the necessary wiring completely out of sight – no small challenge in a barn conversion with exposed beams and traditional features."

Intuitive Control Technology
The sophisticated technology remains remarkably simple to use thanks to a Control4 home automation system. A custom-programmed Neeo touchscreen remote provides elegant control over all functions, with additional access via tablet and smartphone apps.

The Finished Experience
The completed installation delivers exactly what the clients dreamed of – a versatile space that seamlessly transitions from casual TV viewing to immersive movie experiences. The Meridian system produces powerful, detailed sound that fills the spacious barn interior, while the OLED display delivers crisp 4K HDR visuals that bring content to life.
Content sources include Sky Q, Amazon streaming services, and a Sony 4K Blu-ray player, providing virtually unlimited entertainment options.
